Just over a year ago, the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial was unveiled and dedicated. It took many years, many hands, and many hearts working together to make the dream of a State Memorial where Michigan’s Fallen heroes could be honored, a reality. This hallowed site located in Lansing is so incredibly beautiful, peaceful and serene; if you have not been there, you should plan to spend some time walking among the Sentinels looking over the names of our Michigan Heroes.

While the Monument is built, the work is not done. Unfortunately, the need for updates and upgrades will forever remain. With each death, with each funeral and each service, we pray that the day will come that we will not have to add any additional names to the Roll of Heroes. Unfortunately, that dream has not yet come to pass. In the past year alone, since the Dedication of the Memorial, there have been 4 Officers who have died in the line of duty. There are several from the past that have been submitted for approval, and even more that are still being researched. We are anticipating adding at least 12 new names to the Sentinels in the near future.

As everyone is fully aware, 2020 is proving to be quite challenging when it comes to fundraising efforts; thus the purpose of this letter. For 10 years now, FOP Lodge #130 in Ferndale has held an annual motorcycle fundraiser with the intention of helping raise funds and awareness of the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial. This year, with all of the challenges, the Cops On A Run Committee has come up with a great plan to continue this tradition. They have set up the Memorial Mile; a virtual one-mile event that should prove to be most fun.

Once registered, participants will choose how, when and where they will complete their 1 mile commitment. We’re excited to see and hear how people are completing their miles: Walk, run, skate, scoot, water ski, kayak, jet ski, hike, climb, row, and ride are just a few we’ve heard. You can complete your mile solo, with friends and loved ones, or as a group: your mile, your choice. Every registered participant will receive a custom designed “race” bib and medal.

If you are unable to complete a mile in some way, you can still contribute to the success of this event by sharing and forwarding the information and/or by donating to the event.

You can register online by visiting the Event Brite link:

or by using the attached mail in/drop off form. Checks should be made payable to F.O.P. Lodge #130 and forms can be mailed (or dropped off) at:  2233 Burdette, Ferndale, MI 48220.
